Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has received, in a courtesy call, the Ambassador of Japan to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Yoichi Mikami, for discussions aimed at strengthening Tanzania–Japan bilateral relations, with emphasis on economic cooperation, development partnership, and investment.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed Tanzania’s appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support to key national development projects, including the Arusha–Holili road, the Kigoma Port development, agricultural initiatives, and the provision of medical equipment to enhance maternal and child health services. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that all ongoing projects are implemented efficiently and completed within agreed timelines.
Dr. Nchemba also extended congratulations to the Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Ms. Sanae Takaichi, on her appointment in October 2025, highlighting the historic milestone of her leadership. He reiterated Tanzania’s readiness to further deepen cooperation with Japan in areas of mutual interest for the shared benefit of both nations.
Ambassador Mikami commended Tanzania for the notable progress achieved in the implementation of social development projects that had previously experienced delays, noting that since September 2024, the number of outstanding projects has significantly reduced. He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening its longstanding partnership with Tanzania, which spans more than six decades.
