Tanzania is captivating global travel markets at the ongoing FITUR International Tourism Fair in Spain, as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, through its institutions, showcases the country’s diverse and world-class tourism offerings. Visitors to the Tanzania Pavilion have expressed strong interest, with many drawn to one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles—the Great Wildebeest Migration and the synchronized calving season.
Speaking at the pavilion, Ms. Mariam Kobelo, Senior Assistant Commissioner for Tourism and Marketing at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), highlighted the exceptional ecological phenomenon that takes place annually in the Ndutu Plains within the Ngorongoro area. She explained that thousands of wildebeest conceive and give birth within a remarkably short timeframe, creating a dramatic and unforgettable wildlife experience before the herds continue their journey toward the Serengeti.
Ms. Kobelo noted that the calving season runs from December to March, a period when the Ndutu ecosystem provides optimal conditions for newborn survival. These include abundant grazing, reliable water sources, favorable weather, expansive open plains, and relatively lower predator density—factors that allow calves to grow stronger rapidly during their early days.
She further emphasized the importance of Ndutu’s mineral-rich soils, which enhance the health of lactating females and produce highly nutritious milk, essential for strong bone development and overall calf vitality.
Beyond the iconic migration and calving events, the NCAA is also promoting a range of lesser-known but exceptional attractions within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. These include Mount Loolmalasin, the Elephant Caves, Endoro Waterfalls, Engaruka’s cultural and archaeological sites, Mumba Shelter Rocks, the Mbozi Meteorite, and the wider Ngorongoro–Lengai Geopark—offering visitors immersive experiences that blend wildlife, culture, geology, landscapes, and adventure.
During the exhibition, the Tanzanian delegation also engaged with Ms. Eva Mashala from the Embassy of Tanzania in France, who praised the Ministry and its institutions for their effective global outreach. She noted that such international exhibitions continue to enhance Tanzania’s destination visibility, stimulate tourist arrivals, and contribute significantly to national economic growth.
Ms. Kobelo is attending FITUR alongside Tourism Officer Mr. Yohana Nkwamah, representing Tanzania’s commitment to promoting sustainable and diversified tourism on the global stage.
