The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, H.E. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, on January 27, 2026, planted a tree at Bungi Kilimo in the South Unguja Region as part of activities marking the birthday of H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The tree-planting exercise formed part of nationwide efforts to promote environmental conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and climate action, while honouring the President’s leadership and commitment to protecting the environment.
President Samia, who was born on January 27, 1960, in Kizimkazi Village, South Unguja Region, Zanzibar, has consistently encouraged citizens and leaders to mark significant national occasions through activities that contribute to long-term development and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Kijaji emphasized the importance of integrating conservation initiatives into national celebrations, noting that tree planting supports biodiversity, combats climate change, and strengthens sustainable livelihoods for communities.
