
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | 13 February 2026 — The United Republic of Tanzania has congratulated the Republics of Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone, together with the Secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), for successfully completing their voluntary review process under the African Union’s APRM framework.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), conveyed the congratulations on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the 35th Ordinary Session of the APRM Forum of Heads of State and Government. The high-level session was held in Addis Ababa on the margins of the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit taking place from 11–15 February 2026.
Minister Kombo described the milestone as a clear demonstration of the three countries’ steadfast commitment to strengthening good governance, enhancing accountability, and advancing sustainable development across the African continent.
“The AU APRM Secretariat has continued to be an important instrument in promoting transparency, accountability, and the exchange of experiences among member states. Tanzania highly commends the Secretariat,” Minister Kombo stated.
He further applauded the APRM Secretariat for its professionalism and dedication in coordinating the review processes and overseeing the implementation of recommendations by participating member states.
Reaffirming Tanzania’s commitment to the mechanism, Minister Kombo underscored the country’s readiness to continue working closely with the APRM Secretariat and fellow African nations to advance institutional reforms, deepen democratic governance, and promote inclusive development.
He emphasized that unity and genuine cooperation among African states remain essential in strengthening institutions and ensuring that development efforts translate into tangible benefits for citizens across the continent.
The 35th Ordinary Session of the APRM Forum brought together African leaders to assess progress in governance, share best practices, and reinforce accountability systems continent-wide. The meeting was attended by the Presidents of Angola, Burundi, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, as well as the First Vice President of Uganda and foreign ministers representing other African heads of state.
