
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | 14 February 2026 — H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, has underscored the urgent need for sustained and predictable financing to accelerate Africa’s efforts toward malaria elimination.
Speaking to members of the press on the margins of the African Union (AU) Summit of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, President Samia emphasized that long-term investment in health systems, innovation, and prevention strategies remains essential to safeguarding gains made across the continent.
The press engagement was convened under the chairmanship of H.E. Duma Gideon Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana and Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA). Leaders reiterated their collective commitment to strengthening domestic resource mobilization, enhancing accountability mechanisms, and fostering strategic partnerships to achieve a malaria-free Africa.
President Samia reaffirmed Tanzania’s continued dedication to advancing regional and continental cooperation in public health, aligning with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and global health targets.
