The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Hamad Hassan Chande (MP), has called for strengthened innovation and strategic partnerships to elevate Tanzania’s heritage sector and expand its contribution to national development.
Speaking during a working session with officials from the Department of Heritage in Dodoma, Hon. Chande emphasized the need to modernize promotional strategies for heritage attractions and historical museums in order to attract more domestic and international visitors.
He underscored that the heritage and antiquities sub-sector must play a more prominent role in revenue generation and economic growth, particularly through the revitalization of emerging heritage tourism sites and historical museums across the country.
The Deputy Minister further directed the Department to enhance collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGoZ) to consolidate national efforts in developing and marketing new heritage tourism products. He also highlighted the importance of preserving archival music and historical records linked to significant national events, including the liberation of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Earlier, the Director of Heritage, Dr. Christowaja Ntandu, presented the Department’s performance report, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to mobilizing Local Government Authorities to identify, develop, and promote new heritage sites and attractions. He also noted ongoing public awareness initiatives through exhibitions, festivals, and workshops aimed at promoting cultural resources as a strategic pillar of Tanzania’s tourism portfolio.
The initiative reflects the Government’s broader commitment to positioning cultural heritage as a catalyst for sustainable tourism growth and national identity preservation.
