Lushoto, Tanga Region | 17 February 2026 — The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, directing that all development project funds must be utilized strictly as intended.
Addressing residents after commissioning medical oxygen production plants at Lushoto District Hospital, Dr. Nchemba cautioned public officials against negligence in project supervision, stressing that failure to properly manage allocated resources results in substandard infrastructure and denies citizens the full benefits of public investment.
The newly commissioned project, valued at TZS 526.8 million, has the capacity to produce 120 oxygen cylinders (50 kg each) per day, significantly improving access to life-saving medical oxygen services in the district.
The installation eliminates the need for the Council to transport oxygen cylinders approximately 175 kilometres to Tanga City for refilling. To date, the plant has produced 1,440 cylinders (50 kg) and 200 cylinders (15 kg), strengthening local healthcare delivery.
The Prime Minister further urged public servants to execute their duties with diligence and integrity. He also raised concerns regarding irregularities in certain primary school construction projects within the district, including issues related to quality standards, payment documentation, tax compliance, and certification of construction materials.
Dr. Nchemba warned against complacency in addressing citizens’ concerns, emphasizing that public officials must treat community challenges with urgency rather than allowing them to accumulate.
The commissioning of the oxygen plant forms part of broader Government efforts to strengthen health infrastructure and ensure efficient utilization of public resources for sustainable development.
