Morogoro | 21 February 2026 — The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) has reinforced its leadership structure following the formal conferment of military ranks to 13 Conservation Commissioners by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Hamis Semfuko, during an official ceremony held at TAWA Headquarters in Morogoro.

The ceremony marks a significant step in strengthening institutional command, operational discipline, and strategic oversight within Tanzania’s wildlife conservation framework.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Semfuko congratulated them for earning the confidence of the Board and being entrusted with leadership responsibilities across various conservation management areas.

He emphasized that the promotions reflect both merit and institutional trust, urging the Commissioners to uphold Government directives and advance the vision of TAWA’s Fourth Board of Directors. Priority areas include enhanced community engagement, strengthened conservation enforcement, tourism development, investment expansion, and improved revenue generation.

“We want to see TAWA rise to even greater heights, and you are among the key drivers of that progress,” he stated.

The Chairperson further underscored the importance of professionalism, collaboration, innovation, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for human dignity in the execution of duties. He called upon the Commissioners to work closely with officers and rangers under their command to ensure effective and accountable conservation management.

The officers promoted include seven Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioners Privatus Kasisi, Wilbright Munuo, Khadija Malongo, Mark Chuwa, Vicky Kamata, Omary Msangi, and Orest Njau — as well as six Assistant Conservation Commissioners Alphonce Mung’ong’o, Jackson Msaki, Suleiman Keraryo, Jovine Nachihangu, George Makheya, and Rajabu Hochi.
