Tanzania and Singapore Move to Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties

Dar es Salaam, February 26, 2026 – The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has held bilateral talks with the Ambassador of Singapore to Tanzania, Hon. Douglas Foo, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s sub-offices in Dar es Salaam, also involved the presentation of a special message from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to the President of the Republic of Singapore, H.E. Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

During the discussions, Minister Kombo expressed appreciation for Ambassador Foo’s working visit, noting that it comes at a critical time when Tanzania is implementing key development programs in collaboration with international partners, including Singapore.

He identified priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including trade and investment, private sector collaboration, transport, digital technology, and infrastructure development particularly in port development.

On his part, Ambassador Foo commended Tanzania for maintaining political stability and implementing economic reforms that create a favorable investment climate. He reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to strengthening cooperation through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and institutional partnerships.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through diplomatic engagement and high-level visits.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Asia and Australasia Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ms. Felister Rugambwa, along with officials from both Tanzania and Singapore.

Ambassador Foo is in Tanzania for a six-day working visit from February 22–27, 2026, during which he has been meeting government and private sector leaders.

Tanzania and Singapore are marking 46 years of diplomatic relations since establishing formal ties in 1980, reflecting a longstanding partnership built on cooperation and mutual respect.
