Tourism Minister Warns Against Risky River Crossings in Serengeti National Park During Rainy Season

The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, has called on tour guides across Tanzania to exercise greater caution during the ongoing heavy rainy season in order to ensure the safety of tourists and safeguard the reputation of the country’s tourism industry.

Dr. Kijaji issued the warning following the circulation of videos from Serengeti National Park showing some safari vehicles attempting to cross rivers with high water levels.

The Minister stressed the importance of avoiding unnecessary risks while guiding tourists, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when rivers and park roads may become dangerous.

She urged tour operators and guides to prioritize visitor safety and strictly follow park safety guidelines, noting that protecting tourists is essential for maintaining Tanzania’s global reputation as a safe and premier wildlife tourism destination.

Tanzania’s national parks, including the world-famous Serengeti National Park, attract thousands of visitors annually and are among the country’s most important tourism assets.
