DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sports, led by Chairperson Hon. Husna Juma Sekiboko (MP), on March 14, 2026 visited Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam to inspect the progress of renovation works at the two major sports venues.
The committee members were received by Hon. Paul Christian Makonda (MP), the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, as part of Parliament’s oversight activities to monitor development projects funded in the 2025/2026 financial year.
The stadium renovation project, which began in 2023, involves extensive upgrades to key infrastructure and operational systems. The works include improvements to electrical systems, replacement of all lighting, installation of new seats, upgrading of ICT systems, air conditioning systems, fire protection systems, a giant display screen, players’ changing rooms, and the pitch turf.
According to the update presented during the visit, the renovation of the two stadiums is expected to be completed on April 4, 2026.
The upgrades are expected to improve the quality, safety and functionality of the facilities, positioning the two stadiums to better host major sporting events and other national activities.
