Zambia Turns to Tanzania for Lessons in Wildlife Conservation and Tourism Growth.

On behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Mr. Ephraim Balozi Mafuru, has received and engaged with a high-level delegation from Zambia currently visiting Tanzania on a benchmarking tour focused on the country’s successful model of wildlife conservation and tourism promotion.

The Zambian delegation is led by Mr. Siazongo Siakalenge, Deputy Secretary to Cabinet (FED), and includes senior officials from Zambia’s tourism, wildlife, media, and diplomatic institutions.

Strengthening Regional Learning and Cooperation

The engagement also brought together representatives from key conservation institutions under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, including the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) represented by the Conservation Commissioner, Abdul Razak Badru, as well as officials from the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS), the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), and the Wildlife Division.

The discussions focused on Tanzania’s integrated approach to wildlife conservation, destination branding, and sustainable tourism development—areas in which the country has earned strong regional and international recognition.

Admiration for Tanzania’s Conservation Model

Members of the Zambian delegation expressed strong admiration for Tanzania’s robust conservation framework and the country’s success in positioning wildlife and nature as major drivers of tourism growth.

As part of their visit, the delegation also expressed strong interest in witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration in Serengeti National Park, widely regarded as one of the most spectacular wildlife events in the world.

The visit underscores growing regional collaboration in conservation governance, tourism strategy, and environmental diplomacy, while further cementing Tanzania’s standing as a continental leader in nature-based tourism and protected area management.
