Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, recently took part in the India Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day celebrations held in Dar es Salaam.
During the event, Minister Kombo underscored the importance of the long-standing partnership between Tanzania and India, praising the Indian Government for its continued support through the ITEC program. He noted that the initiative has played a crucial role in strengthening the capacity of Tanzanian public servants and empowering youth with valuable skills.
He highlighted that hundreds of Tanzanians have benefited from ITEC training programs across key sectors such as technology, healthcare, agriculture, economics, financial management, and human resource development.
The Minister further emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the vision of the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which focuses on enhancing knowledge and skills among young people to accelerate economic development.
He assured that the Government of Tanzania will continue to support and monitor such programs to ensure more citizens benefit from these opportunities.
Speaking on bilateral relations, Minister Kombo stated that diplomatic ties between Tanzania and India have grown into a strong strategic partnership, with notable progress in trade and investment.
He also expressed appreciation to the Government of India, through Jaipur Foot, for organizing a prosthetic limb camp in November 2025 that provided free services to more than 600 beneficiaries—an initiative he described as a symbol of strong cooperation between the two nations.
Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Hon. Bishwadip Dey, reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening collaboration through training initiatives, describing ITEC as a vital platform for sharing knowledge and expertise.
ITEC Day, established in 1972, is commemorated annually to recognize the program’s contribution to human resource development in partner countries, including Tanzania.
