Tanzania Airports Authority Calls for AI-Driven Aviation Security at ACI Africa Conference in Angola

The Tanzania Airports Authority has called for the adoption of advanced, AI-driven security systems to safeguard Africa’s rapidly growing aviation sector, during the ACI Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition held in Luanda on April 1, 2026.

Speaking at a high-level session on airport security, Director General Abdul Mombokaleo emphasized the urgent need for continuously evolving security frameworks capable of addressing emerging risks across the continent.

He highlighted the importance of transitioning toward risk-based and intelligence-led security models, supported by artificial intelligence-powered cybersecurity systems. These technologies, he noted, enhance threat detection, enable data-driven decision-making, and strengthen proactive risk mitigation across airport operations.

“Information is power,” Mombokaleo said, stressing the critical role of timely intelligence sharing in improving preparedness and enabling coordinated responses among aviation stakeholders.

He further pointed to the growing role of biometric and digital passenger systems in enhancing both security and passenger experience, while calling for dynamic cybersecurity strategies that can keep pace with rapidly evolving threats.

Reinforcing the importance of collaboration, he noted that aviation security is a shared responsibility requiring coordinated efforts across governments, regulators, and private sector players within the aviation ecosystem.

Mombokaleo also reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to digital transformation, highlighting ongoing efforts to deploy advanced infrastructure and innovative technologies aimed at improving safety, operational efficiency, and global competitiveness.

“By embracing innovation and AI, we are building a secure, resilient, and future-ready aviation ecosystem for Africa,” he said.

The conference brought together aviation leaders, policymakers, and industry experts from across the continent to discuss strategies for strengthening security while supporting sustainable growth in Africa’s aviation sector.
