Dr. Mwinyi highlighted that the 2026 relay carries a message promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion under the theme: “Tanzania is Ours, Let’s Unite for Development.” He emphasized that unity and cooperation form the foundation for national development and urged leaders across all sectors to strengthen harmony, love, and peace among citizens for the country’s progress.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Youth Development, Joel Arthur Nanauka, said the Uhuru Torch is a national treasure handed down by the founders of Tanzania. Its philosophy continues to inspire citizens, fostering unity, peace, and dedication to national development.
“The Uhuru Torch has been guiding Tanzanians in social and economic planning since its inception, promoting the values of unity, peace, and hard work for the progress of the nation,” said Nanauka.
The torch will be carried across all 31 regions of Tanzania and all 195 districts and councils, inspecting and inaugurating development projects that benefit citizens.
South Pemba Regional Commissioner Rashid Hadid Rashid added that the torch continues to inspire development, fight corruption, strengthen governance, protect national resources, and symbolize peace, love, and unity.
The launch ceremony was attended by leaders from both the Union and Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, members of parliament, political party leaders, religious figures, and citizens.
