Senior Tanzanian leaders have gathered in Zanzibar to commemorate the 54th anniversary of the late Abeid Amani Karume, honoring his legacy as a founding leader of the nation.
The Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, Hamad Yussuf Masauni, participated in a special memorial prayer held at the headquarters of Chama Cha Mapinduzi in Kisiwandui, Unguja, on April 7, 2026.
The event brought together top national leaders, including the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan; the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hussein Ali Mwinyi; and the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba.
The annual commemoration reflects the continued national recognition of Karume’s contribution to Zanzibar’s political history and the broader development of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Karume is widely remembered for his leadership during a formative period in the country’s history, with commemorative events serving as a platform to reinforce national unity, remembrance, and shared heritage.
