Political party leaders have expressed readiness to support structured dialogue between the Government and key social groups, a move expected to strengthen peace, cooperation, social stability and national cohesion. The commitment was highlighted in Morogoro during an engagement between the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Relations and members of the Leadership Committee of the Council of Political Parties. The meeting provided a platform for the Prime Minister’s Office to introduce the mandate of the Department of Relations and explain its role in strengthening Government engagement with stakeholders, including political parties, civil groups and communities. Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms. Zuhura Yunus, said the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to promote stronger ties between the Government and various stakeholders through dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding. She said political parties remain important partners in building trust, strengthening communication and supporting national unity, particularly because of their direct links with citizens and communities across the country. Building on the same message, the Registrar of Political Parties, retired Judge Francis Mutungi, underscored the importance of political parties as key partners in sustaining peace and stability in the country. He said strong relations between the Government and political actors create room for cooperation, while cooperation opens space for dialogue and practical solutions to social and national challenges. Judge Mutungi added that political leaders are well positioned to safeguard Tanzania’s long-standing tradition of peace by promoting unity, tolerance and responsible public engagement among citizens. The need for stronger Government–political party collaboration was also echoed by CHAUMMA Secretary General, who also serves as Vice Chairperson of the Election Committee of the Council of Political Parties, Mr. Salum Mwalimu. He welcomed the engagement as an important step towards improving cooperation, noting that good relations between the Government and political stakeholders are essential for the effective implementation of national priorities, including the National Development Vision 2050. Beyond the exchange of views, the engagement is expected to improve Government–stakeholder communication, strengthen trust between public institutions and political actors, and create a more cooperative environment for addressing national development issues. It was organised following a request by the Prime Minister’s Office, through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, to meet members of the Council of Political Parties and raise awareness on the mandate and functions of the Department of Relations.

The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. William Ruto, made history on May 5, 2026, in Dodoma by addressing the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania for the first time since taking office. Our real enemies are underdevelopment, unemployment, and poverty. Let us work together to defeat these challenges and create opportunities for our youth,” President Ruto stated.
He further underscored the importance of joint investment in large-scale projects across East Africa to reduce reliance on imports from outside the region. He noted that while East Africa is rich in resources, what is required is collective decision-making and strategic investment to fully harness that potential.
Among the key projects highlighted was the proposed construction of a modern oil refinery in Tanga, expected to serve as a catalyst for economic transformation across the region by ensuring that crude oil is processed locally rather than exported in raw form.
President Ruto also explained that the choice of Tanga is supported by the presence of critical infrastructure such as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, which will facilitate efficient transportation and distribution of oil.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Mussa Azan Zungu, commended President Ruto for his address, noting that it reflects a genuine commitment to strengthening cooperation between Tanzania and Kenya.

Speaking to editors and journalists in Dar es Salaam, Mohamed Othman Chande said the commission remained focused on examining evidence submitted to it in line with its assigned terms of reference.
“The commission’s core responsibility was to establish the facts based on the evidence presented before it,” Chande stated. “Our task was to respond to the terms of reference that we were given.”
He explained that the commission was mandated to determine the causes of the violence, identify motives and individuals involved, and assess the broader human, economic, and social impacts of the unrest.
In addition, the inquiry was tasked with proposing recommendations aimed at preventing and containing similar incidents in the future.
The commission was established following violence that erupted during and after Tanzania’s October 2025 general election—an episode that sparked nationwide debate on accountability, public order, and democratic governance.
The report has since been submitted to Samia Suluhu Hassan, and continues to shape discussions on strengthening institutional responses and safeguarding electoral processes in Tanzania.
