Dr. Ashatu Kijaji Lands in Zimbabwe for Major Africa Tourism Women Empowerment Summit

Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji, has arrived in Zimbabwe to participate in a high-level regional tourism summit focused on women’s empowerment.

The conference, organized by United Nations World Tourism Organization, will take place at the iconic Victoria Falls from April 29 to May 1, 2026. It aims to strengthen the role of women in Africa’s tourism sector by addressing opportunities, challenges, and inclusive growth strategies.

Upon arrival, Dr. Kijaji was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Suzan S. Kaganda, marking the country’s strong diplomatic presence at the event.

During the summit, Dr. Kijaji is expected to participate in a ministerial panel discussion alongside other African leaders. The session will focus on enhancing women’s leadership, promoting equal opportunities, and advancing gender-inclusive policies within the tourism industry.

The gathering will bring together key tourism stakeholders from across Africa and beyond, serving as a platform to exchange best practices, discuss policy frameworks, and develop strategies to foster sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.

Key agenda items include strengthening women’s leadership, promoting entrepreneurship, and expanding economic opportunities to boost women’s contribution to Africa’s tourism development.

The summit underscores Tanzania’s continued commitment to advancing gender equality and positioning tourism as a driver of inclusive economic growth across the continent.
