Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda Sign Joint Agreement for TotalEnergies AFCON PAMOJA 2027

The host nations of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda — officially signed a joint agreement known as the CAF Joint Resolution – TotalEnergies AFCON PAMOJA 2027 on May 11, 2026.

The agreement was signed to strengthen coordination, collaboration, and joint preparations among the three host nations ahead of Africa’s premier football tournament.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the President of the Confederation of African Football, Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

Tanzania was represented by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Paul Makonda, together with leaders of the Tanzania Football Federation led by its President, Wallace Karia.

Speaking during an inspection tour of AFCON 2027 infrastructure projects, Dr. Jim Yonazi, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities) and Chairperson of the National Permanent Secretaries Committee for AFCON 2027 preparations, said the tournament presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to position Tanzania on the global stage. "AFCON 2027 is more than a football tournament. It is a platform to showcase Tanzania to the world. Every institution must play its part to ensure the country fully benefits from this opportunity," Dr. Yonazi said. The committee, comprising Permanent Secretaries from various ministries and heads of government institutions, inspected the progress of key sports facilities, including Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, Law School Grounds, Leaders Club, Gymkhana Club, and Farasi Training Grounds. Dr. Yonazi emphasized that collaboration across all sectors will be essential to ensuring Tanzania successfully co-hosts AFCON 2027 while maximizing long-term benefits for tourism, investment, business, and national development. He also directed the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) to develop a dedicated international marketing strategy showcasing Tanzania's wildlife, cultural heritage, and investment opportunities to the thousands of visitors expected during the continental championship. Meanwhile, Boniface Tamba, Director of Sports Development at the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, confirmed that infrastructure upgrades remain on schedule. He noted that construction and rehabilitation of roads leading to stadiums and training venues are nearing completion, reflecting Tanzania's commitment to hosting a successful tournament. As preparations continue, Tanzania, alongside Kenya and Uganda, is gearing up to host AFCON 2027, marking the first time the prestigious African football tournament will be jointly hosted by three East African nations.

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba chairing the AFCON 2027 National Preparations Committee meeting at Magogoni in Dar es Salaam Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba today chaired a meeting of the National Committee for the Preparations of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) to review progress made in organizing the prestigious tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda in 2027. The meeting was held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Prime Minister’s Sub-Office in Magogoni, Dar es Salaam. During the discussions, the Prime Minister commended the committee for the significant work accomplished so far, expressing satisfaction with the pace and overall direction of the ongoing preparations. Dr. Mwigulu noted that the progress achieved demonstrates the Government’s strong commitment to ensuring Tanzania becomes an excellent host for the tournament. He emphasized the importance of full participation across all sectors, urging ministers, permanent secretaries, and other officials to actively engage their respective sectors to ensure positive outcomes during the tournament. Additionally, the Prime Minister called upon committee members to diligently oversee their assigned responsibilities to ensure all preparation activities are completed within the set timelines and meet acceptable standards.
