UDSM PhD Graduation Reflects Tanzania’s Rising Global Academic Prestige

The University of Dar es Salaam’s 56th Graduation Ceremony – Cluster I, held on 25 May 2026, unfolded in an atmosphere of dignity, scholarly excellence, and academic prestige as PhD graduates were officially conferred their doctoral degrees at Mlimani City Hall. Unlike the energetic celebrations commonly associated with undergraduate graduations, the ceremony reflected calm confidence, intellectual maturity, and the distinguished culture of global academia.

The Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam and former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, presided over the ceremony, awarding doctoral degrees to scholars whose academic journeys represent years of rigorous research, resilience, sacrifice, and intellectual dedication. The event highlighted the University of Dar es Salaam’s enduring legacy as one of Africa’s leading centres of higher learning and symbolized Tanzania’s growing contribution to global research, innovation, and academic leadership.
