The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the President of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, have witnessed the signing of four bilateral cooperation agreements between Tanzania and Namibia, a significant step expected to further strengthen the two nations’ historic ties and unlock new opportunities for development.
The agreements were signed at the State House in Dar es Salaam following official bilateral talks between the two leaders aimed at deepening economic and social cooperation.
The signed agreements cover cooperation in defence, partnership between the Zanzibar Municipal Council and the City of Swakopmund in Namibia, collaboration in trade, and cooperation in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking after the signing ceremony, President Samia said the agreements reflect the strong commitment of both Tanzania and Namibia to elevate their longstanding relationship into a partnership that delivers greater economic and social benefits.
She noted that the cooperation framework will help expand trade and investment, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and enhance the well-being of citizens in both countries.
For her part, President Nandi-Ndaitwah described the agreements as a clear indication of the growing strategic partnership between Tanzania and Namibia, founded on solidarity, friendship, and a shared history of Africa’s liberation struggles. She emphasized that their implementation would create new opportunities for economic growth, private sector development, and stronger collaboration between public institutions.
The signing of the agreements is widely regarded as a major milestone in the efforts of Tanzania and Namibia to transform their historic friendship into a results-oriented partnership that delivers tangible benefits to their people. It also underscores the commitment of both leaders to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors in pursuit of sustainable development, job creation, trade growth, and shared prosperity.
