The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has signed a grant agreement worth €20 million (approximately TZS 60.7 billion) from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through the German Development Bank (KfW), to finance the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in the towns of Tunduma and Vwawa-Mlowo in Songwe Region.
The agreement was signed in Dodoma by the Permanent Secretary and Paymaster General at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, on behalf of the Government of Tanzania, and Ms. Vanessa Eidt, Director of KfW Tanzania.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Dr. Mwamba stated that the project will enhance sustainable access to clean water, sanitation services, and water resource management for communities in the project areas. The initiative will support the construction of water supply infrastructure, customer connections, a wastewater treatment plant, procurement of exhauster trucks, and sanitation facilities in public institutions, including selected schools.
Dr. Mwamba expressed appreciation to the German Government for its continued development partnership, noting that Germany has been a key supporter of Tanzania’s development priorities across sectors such as water, health, natural resource conservation, environmental protection, public financial management, and gender equality.
He further emphasized that the project aligns with Tanzania’s long-term development aspirations under Vision 2050 and the country’s ongoing national development agenda aimed at improving public services, strengthening resilience, and advancing inclusive socio-economic growth.
