Moshi, Tanzania | July 2026
Tanzania’s leading tour operator, Zara Tanzania Adventures, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable tourism development by sponsoring the Police Tourism and Diplomacy Training Workshop, a strategic capacity-building programme designed to strengthen the professionalism of Tanzania Police Force officers in serving tourists, diplomats, investors and other international visitors.
Held at the Tanzania Police School (CCP) in Moshi, the workshop brought together senior police commanders, officers from across Tanzania, tourism experts, academics and private-sector stakeholders to reinforce the critical relationship between security, customer service and destination competitiveness. The initiative reflects a growing recognition that tourism security is fundamental to visitor satisfaction and the long-term growth of Tanzania’s tourism industry.
Building a Safer and More Competitive Tourism Destination
The workshop was officially opened by Commissioner of Police Awadhi Haji Awadhi, Commissioner for Operations and Training, and hosted by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramadhan Mungi, Commandant of the Tanzania Police School-Moshi.
Also participating were Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Pudensia Kyaruzi, responsible for Minerals, Tourism and Environment within the Tanzania Police Force, alongside police officers representing different regions of the country, ensuring that the knowledge gained will benefit tourism destinations nationwide.
Located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Moshi serves as one of Tanzania’s principal tourism gateways, welcoming thousands of international visitors every year travelling to Kilimanjaro National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and other attractions across the Northern Tourism Circuit. The location provided an ideal setting to discuss modern approaches to tourism policing, visitor relations and destination safety.
Equipping Police Officers with Tourism and Diplomacy Skills
The training programme focused on four strategic areas essential to delivering world-class visitor experiences:
- Economic and International Diplomacy
- Professional Communication and Customer Service
- Tourism Customer Care
- Consumer and Visitor Behaviour
These specialised skills enable law enforcement officers to communicate effectively with visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds, respond professionally during emergencies and enhance Tanzania’s reputation as a welcoming and secure tourism destination.
Experts from Leading Academic Institutions
The workshop featured renowned academics and tourism specialists, including Prof. Alex Kisingo, Deputy Rector for Academic, Research and Consultancy at the College of African Wildlife Management (Mweka), together with Dr. Ebenezer Goroi, Dr. Richard Kisasembe, Dr. Noeli Nthangu from the University of Dar es Salaam and Dr. Alfred Kimea, former Member of Parliament for Korogwe Town.
Their combined expertise provided participants with practical knowledge in tourism management, diplomacy, communication, customer relations and international visitor expectations.
Tourism Security is Destination Marketing
Speaking during the workshop on behalf of Zara Tanzania Adventures, Mr. Hoseana Nyingi, Head of Information Technology and Marketing, emphasized that visitor safety has become an essential component of destination marketing.
He noted that international travellers evaluate destinations not only by their attractions but also by their safety, hospitality, professionalism and the confidence they feel while travelling. Positive experiences shared through platforms such as Google Reviews, TripAdvisor, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok significantly influence future travel decisions and strengthen Tanzania’s global tourism brand.
Police Officers are Ambassadors of Tanzania
The programme highlighted the important role police officers play in shaping visitors’ experiences.
Whether assisting tourists who have lost travel documents, responding to emergencies, handling traffic incidents or providing directions, officers often become some of the first public officials international visitors interact with during challenging situations.
Professional, respectful and efficient service can transform difficult moments into positive memories, reinforcing Tanzania’s image as a safe and hospitable destination.
Zainab Ansell’s Vision Beyond Business
The sponsorship reflects the enduring leadership of Ms. Zainab Ansell, Founder and Managing Director of Zara Tanzania Adventures, whose contribution to Tanzania’s tourism sector extends well beyond commercial success.
For decades, Ansell has championed responsible tourism, youth employment, women’s empowerment, community development, environmental conservation and professional capacity-building initiatives that strengthen Tanzania’s tourism ecosystem.
Her support for the Police Tourism and Diplomacy Training Workshop demonstrates a broader vision of investing in institutions that contribute to visitor confidence and national tourism competitiveness rather than focusing solely on corporate interests.
Strengthening Tanzania Through Public–Private Partnership
The initiative illustrates the importance of collaboration between government institutions, academia and the private sector in building a resilient tourism industry.
By investing in police professionalism, tourism companies contribute not only to safer visitor experiences but also to increased investor confidence, stronger destination branding and sustainable economic growth.
A visitor who feels safe is more likely to extend their stay, explore additional destinations, recommend Tanzania to others and return for future visits—creating widespread economic benefits for hotels, tour operators, transport providers, national parks, local businesses and surrounding communities.
Supporting Tanzania’s Tourism Vision
As Tanzania continues positioning itself among Africa’s leading tourism destinations, initiatives such as the Police Tourism and Diplomacy Training Workshop reinforce the country’s commitment to delivering world-class visitor experiences built on professionalism, safety and exceptional hospitality.
Through its sponsorship, Zara Tanzania Adventures has once again demonstrated that successful tourism extends beyond showcasing breathtaking landscapes—it requires continuous investment in people, partnerships and institutions that protect and enhance the visitor experience.
With a stronger partnership between the Tanzania Police Force, tourism stakeholders and academic institutions, Tanzania is taking another significant step towards becoming one of the world’s safest, most welcoming and most competitive tourism destinations
